Maine Coon

The Maine Coon is known as a large cat and is much like a small dog when it grows up. It is large enough that you can put a harness on your cat and take it for walks. They are also big-boned and have long fur that is smooth and silky. Their ears are longer than traditional cats. You will find a kitten in solid white, black, cream, blue, and red. You will also find them as a calico, tabby, and bicolor.

This breed likes water so give it a bath when you notice its fur is becoming dirty. One thing to consider is this cat does shed a lot. Brushing it regularly will help with this a little. Because they love attention, they will not mind their daily grooming sessions. 

Finding a Maine Coon

Start out by looking for breeders in your area. Because these cats shed a lot some people take them to a rescue so you should look there as well. If you find a breeder, visit with them, and inspect where the cats are held. Being inside the home is beneficial as your cat will already be used to the noises and around people. 

If you cannot find a breeder in your area, look online. You may have one near your home or may need to take a drive for a few hours. You may find them in pet stores, but a breeder is your best option. A breeder can tell you much more information about the mother and father.
